What does the Muse Kit test for?
We currently offer two hormonal panels based on whether or not a woman is on hormonal birth control.
For women not on hormonal birth control and with regular cycles, we test:
- Feminine hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone)
- Androgen hormones (DHEA, Testosterone)
- 4 point Cortisol
- Thyroid (TSH, free T3, free T4, Anti-TPO)
For women not on hormonal birth control and with an irregular cycle, we test:
- Feminine hormones (LH, FSH, Estrogen, Progesterone)
- Androgen hormones (DHEA, Testosterone)
- Thyroid (TSH, free T3, free T4)
- Glycemic panel (Homa-IR, Insulin, Glucose)
- Vitamin panel (Vitamin D, Ferritin)
For women on hormonal birth control*, we test:
- Cortisol
- Thyroid (TSH, free T3, free T4)
- Vitamin panel (Ferritin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12)
- Cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL)
- Inflammation marker (usCRP)
- Glycemic panel (Homa-IR, Insulin, Glucose)
*Hormonal birth control contains synthetic hormones that suppress the body's natural hormone cycle, reducing the production of hormones like estrogen and progesterone and thus requiring different set of inputs.
How is the test done?
If you are on birth control or have an irregular cycle, the test will be a blood prick.
If you are not on birth control and have a regular cycle, the test will be a blood prick as well as saliva collection — you’ll need to fill your saliva tubes 4x times throughout the day.
Our laboratories are CLIA certified.
When should you collect your sample?
This depends on whether you are on birth control, and whether you have irregular periods.
If you are on birth control, you can take the test at your earliest convenience.
If you are not on birth control, you should take the test on the 21st day of your cycle (which we will remind you about).
If you have irregular cycles, the 3rd day of your cycle is the most reliable.
All the tests should be done in the morning, before you've had anything to eat or drink
